When the Civil War commenced,in 1861, he enlisted as a private inthe Union Volunteer Army. Heserved until the end of the struggle,and was mustered out in 1865 withthe rank of First Lieutenant. For the next few years our subject was employed in business walks. Hefinally decided to take up the studyof medicine, and so entered the College of Homeopathic Phy-sicians and Surgeons. He graduatedin 1871, and commenced practice inSt. Louis in the same year. In theyears 1872-3 he attended the Medical College. In 1874 Dr. Griveaud spent somemonths in Arkansas, with head-quarters at Chicoto, studying and. gaining by observation practicalknowledge of swamp fevers. At one time he gave particular at-tention to cases of deformity, butfor the greater part of his profes-sional career he has been engaged ina general practice, which has in-cluded considerable surgical 1873 he was assistant surgeonof the United States Marine Hospi-tal, St. Louis. From 1875 to 1877he was physician to the Worthy Wo-mens Home and physician to theFrench Society de Bienfeven, alsoProfessor of National Philosophy,Chemistry and Texicology in the 260 ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF Homeopathic Medical College ofMissouri.
