In fact, under ordinary conditions, we would ad- vise no change in the present arrange- ments and would suggest the use of either a 3-ineh main for each of the new houses or a 4%-inch main to supply the two new houses. Just how much radiation should be supplied by a main of a given size will vary not only with the length and the size of the coils, but also with the height of the flows and returns above the top of the boiler and the ratio be- tween the radiation and the glass areas. The capacity of a main will be in- creased if the boiler is oversize. If there is no glass in the side walls, we judge that the radiation in the old houses will keep them at from 40 to 45 degrees in a temperature of 10 degrees below zero. By doubling the radiation in the new houses, they can be kept heated to a temperature of 50 to 55 degrees. SELECTI
