The sage-brush grows luxuriantly, and where thealkali beds ilo not appear, the soil ]:)roducesa good crop of bunch-grass. The road. TRLCKEE RIVER. takes the short side of the semi-circlekeeping close to the foot of the isolatedHumboldt Spur. On the opposite side ofthe river, behind the Battle MountainRange, are several valleys, watered by themountain streams, and atibrding a largearea of first-class farming land. Chiefamong these is Quinns Valley, wateredby the river of that name. The arableportion of the valley is about 75 miles long,ranging in width from three to seven is a tine body of valley land, capable ofproducing luxuriant crops of grain, grassor vegetables. The hills which enclose itafford excellent pasturage. Timber of va-rious qualities—spruce and pine predomi-nating—is found in the gulches and ravinesof the mountains. Quinns Rivei, which flows through thisvalley, is a large stream rising in the Hills of the Owyhee range, about 150miles distant. Fromits source the generalcour-e of tlie river is due south for about80 miles, when it turns and runs due westuntil it reaches IMud Lake. D
