Precancerous skin lesion. Close-up of melanocytic intraepithelial neoplasia (MIN) on the cheek of a 67-year-old male patient. MIN, or melanoma in situ, results from an abnormal growth of the epithelial cells that form the epidermis (top skin layer). Treatment is by removing the affected area plus an area of normal skin around it.
