Lavender stem trichomes (Lavandula sp), coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Leaves and stems of lavender are covered with dense glandular trichomes (captate and peltate). These trichomes serve as a protective function against pests and also helps to reduce leaf evaporation. The spherical gland is an oil gland or glandular trichome that produces the plant's aromatic oil. Lavender is an herb that grows wild in Mediterranean region but is farmed all over the world.
