When the great armada left HamptonRoads fourteen months ago on December16, 1907, it sailed with an open itineraryaround Cape Horn to San Francisco, witha number of stops in South America. Itwas the first attempt of a great fleet toRound the Horn. Many were the conjectures offered by thepress of all nations as to the possibility of asuccessful voyage of the entire fleet.
