Russian space shuttle 'Buran' OK-GLI at the Technikmuseum, Speyer, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

OK-GLI is the aerodynamic test analogue for the Russian (Soviet Union) Buran reusable spacecraft programme. It flew 25 times between 1985 and 1988 as an aeroplane to test the aerodynamics of the vehicle after re-entry. It had four turbofan engines to enable it to take off under its own power and climb to altitude for glide tests. After the Buran programme cancelled in 1993 it was sold to an Australian company as a tourist attreaction during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The company went bust and in 2005 OK-GLI was in Bahrain and was bought by the Technik Museum Speyer. After legal difficulties it arrived on a Rhine barge in 2008.
