Thus attired,the zampognari go from house to house,singing and playing before the little gild-ed images of the Virgin and the Child, andstopping before the street shrines, wherethey repeat their monotonous song. OnChristmas Eve, when there is a spirit ofliberality abroad, the zampognaro usuallyreceives a large number of coppers, andas much in the way of food and drink ashis stomach can accommodate.
