At hisdeath, which occurred in 1868, he was universal-ly mourned, for in him the county lost one of itsbest residents. Mrs. Budd preceded him to thegrave by many years, dying November 27, 1855,when our subject was only two years of age. Hefirst attended the schools taught in his district,after which he became a student in the academyat Monticello. After completing his education, our subject re-turned to the home farm and gave his attentionto learning the details of conducting a farm. Uponreaching his majority he began for himself, andas a result of investing his means in land fromtime to time, he is now the owner of a tractof nearly one hundred acres, which is productiveand well cared for.
