In 1848 he came to Saline county and lived for two years onwhat is now known as the Stephen Smith farm. In 1850 he bought thefarm on which he now resides, six miles southeast of Marshall, consistingof 100 acres of excellent land. In 1864* he enlisted in the Confederatearmy, Capt. Paynes company, Gen. Shelbys division. Was engaged inthe following battles: Independence, Blues, Little Osage, and all other. w ^
