Bronze face of poet Dante Alighieri (c. 1265-1321) by the entrance to the medieval Castello dei Conti Guidi (Castle of the Guidi Counts) at Poppi, Tuscany, Italy.

Poppi, Tuscany, Italy: the face of poet Dante Alighieri (c. 1265-1321). This bronze bust by the entrance to the medieval Castello dei Conti Guidi (Castle of the Guidi Counts) recalls the nearby Battle of Campaldino in 1289, when Dante, aged 24, is thought to have fought in the victorious Florentine Guelph cavalry against Ghibelline forces from Arezzo, a triumph that made Florence the leading power in Tuscany.
