These are the gardens at Talbot House in the Belgium town of Poperinge know during the First World War as Pop. Talbot house known to soldiers a Toc-H was managed by the Rev Tubby Clayton where the rule was that the men should leave their caps at the door since rank and regiment are of no consequence in Toc-H Everyman's Club. Being behind the front line Toc-H provided respite from the horrors of the battlefield with the garden now as then providing a peaceful haven.
