The pain dis-tributed itself to the right half of the sacrum and attained such a degree of intensitythat it was relieved only by hypodermic injections of morphin and belladonna. InApril, 1901, chills were frequent. In May, 1901, paralysis began, first in the toes of theright foot. In addition there was severe sciatica even upon the left side, as well asretention of urine and cystalgia. The paralysis in the succeeding 4 weeks involved both.
