White-tailed kite (Elanus leucurus) perched in a tree. This small raptor that lives in open country, dry grass savannahs, meadows and cultivated land with trees. Hunting live prey from exposed perches, it flies slowly and hovers gracefully like a kestrel, hence the name kite. Photographed in California, USA, in late winter.
