Oeso-gastrointestinal duodenal transit. Coloured frontal X-ray of the digestive system of an obese 29-year-old man (weighing 140 kilograms) who is being assessed for bariatric (weight-loss) surgery). The oesophagus, stomach and duodenum (first part of the intestines) are being examined on the X-ray using a contrast medium (black) such as barium (in a 'barium meal) that is opaque to X-rays. The test is known as an oeso-gastrointestinal duodenal transit (OGDT). Most of the contrast medium is in the stomach here.
