Inigo Jones (1573-1652), English architect. Jones, who travelled abroad and was greatly influenced by Andrea Palladio, is known for bringing Italianate Renaissance architecture to England. He designed a number of buildings in England, including the Queen's House at Greenwich, London, and the Banqueting House at Whitehall. He also worked on stage designs for Queen Anne, the wife of James I, and was Surveyor of Works to King Charles I until the outbreak of the Civil War.
