Ebrahim Raisolsadati (December 1960 – 19 May 2024), commonly known as Ebrahim Raisi, was an Iranian politician who served as the eighth president of Iran from 2021 until his death in 2024. A Principlist and a Muslim jurist, he became president after the 2021 election in Iran.

Ebrahim Raisi (born December 14, 1960 in Mashhad) was an Iranian conservative politician and jurist who served as the 8th President of Iran from 2021 to 2024. Prior to his presidency, he held various positions including Prosecutor General, Chief Justice, and Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi. Raisi was first elected as a representative from South Khorasan province to the Assembly of Experts in 1996. In the 1980s, he served as a prosecutor in various cities including Karaj, Hamedan and Tehran. Raisi was nicknamed the "Butcher of Tehran" for his role in the mass executions of political prisoners in 1988. In the 2017 presidential election, Raisi ran as the conservative candidate but lost to incumbent Hassan Rouhani, receiving 38% of the votes to Rouhani's 57%. In 2021, after major reformist and moderate candidates were disqualified, Raisi won with 62% of the vote. His presidency saw a deadlock in reviving the JCPOA nuclear deal, increased uranium enrichment, Iran joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, and support for Russia in the Ukraine war. Large-scale protests also erupted following the death of Mahsa Amini. Raisi died on May 19, 2024 at the age of 63.
