This is thesketch of the special excursion train of the NewYork and Eastern Editorial Excursion Partyof 1875, who, at this part, the center of the val-ley, midway between the two canons, were pro-fuse in their exclamations of delight at thescene of beauty. A curious feature of Echo Canon is that itsscenery is entirely on the right or north side,and that the Weber Canon has, also, upon the. MONUMENT ROCK.—ECHO CANON. same side, its wildest and most characteristicscenery. The entrance and departure fromeach canon is distinguished with great abrupt-ness and distinctness. Travelers who can enjoythe fortunate position of the lowest step on theplatform of each car, can witness all the scenesof Echo and Weber Canons, to the best advan-tage. The view is particularly fine,—as whenthe train describes the sharp turn, under andaround Pulpit Rock, the view from the last plat-form includes the whole length of the train onHi,, curve,—and overhead the jutting point ofthe rock, and. farther above, the massive RockMountain, the overlook to the entire valley.
