A late 19th Century illustration from the Book of Kings, in the old Testament, of the death of Jezebel. She was the wife of Ahab, King of Israel, who both instituted the worship of Baal and Asherah on a national scale and violently purged the prophets from Israel. For these offences, Jehu, the tenth king of the northern Kingdom of Israel killed King Jehoram, then confronted Jezebel in Jezreel and urged her eunuchs to kill her by throwing her out of a window. They comply, tossing her out the window and leaving her in the street to be eaten by dogs.
