The flotation process . fc NOTES ON FLOTATION 243 4 roughers and 1 half-size cleaner required 25 hp.; deducting 4 two 2-in. centrifugal pumps, this equals 20 hp., or 4 hp. per cell,or 10 tons per horse-power, or per ton. -s^to 4, NCtr A maximum figure would be 2| per ton of feed, using5 to 5|-lb. air-pressure, generated by a Roots or Connersville positiveblower. 244 THE FLOTATION PROCESS Cost. The oil-mixtures generally in use will cost from upto 3c. per lb. depending on the proportion of cresol and other high-priced oils used, but l^c. per lb. will be a safe average on mostoils. A consumption of 1 to 1| lb. per ton or from to ton of feed, say 2|c., would be a safe average. The labor,of course, will vary with the size of the plant. At one plantconsisting of 60 cells, two men per shift operate the entire plant, equivalent to a cost of l|c. per ton. One man per shift on a 250-tonplant will mean a cost of per ton in maintenance. Assuminga life of three months per blanket and 50 tons per cell and anallowance for repairs to blowers, motors, pumps, etc., we have ton as a liberal estimate. Power at Ic. per ($60 per ) and 2^ ton equals per ton
