Baby born by caesarean section. Medical staff caring for a newborn baby that has just been delivered by caesarean section. They are attending to the remnants of the umbilical cord that are still attached to the baby. A caesarean section involves making an incision through the abdomen and uterus in order to remove the baby from its mother. Caesareans are usually performed when a vaginal delivery would lead to complications. Photographed at St Mary's Hospital, Lacor, Gulu, Uganda.
