History of Spain. Madrid. Horse racing at the Hipódromo de la Castellana (La Castellana Racecourse). It was inaugurated on 31 January 1878 on the occasion of the wedding of King Alfonso XII and Mercedes of Orléans. Race of the 12th November 1878, in which the horse "Trovador", owned by Mr. Davies, won the prize of the City Council. Engraving by Rico.
