Ram with the Golden Fleece carries Phrixus and Helle, children of the king of Boeotia Athamas and his wife Nephele to Colchis.

In ancient Greek mythology, the Greek hero Jason sought the Golden Fleece in Colchis to bring it back to his uncle Pelias, who had usurped the throne of Iolcus from Jason's father. With the aid of Medea, the daughter of Aeetes, the king of Colchis, Jason snatched the fleece. Medea fell in love with Jason and left Colchis with him. This 1901 illustration shows the ram with the Golden Fleece carrying the siblings Phrixus and Helle, the children of the king of Boeotia Athamas and his wife Nephele, the goddess of the clouds. When Ino, the children's stepmother, tried to have both killed, Nephele rescued them by putting them on a golden ram that could fly. Helle fell off on the journey, and the Hellespont (present-day Dardanalles, was named for here. Phrixus made it to Colchis, where the fleece was hung on a tree and guarded by a dragon.
