The papilios of Great Britain, systematically arranged, accurately engraved, and painted from nature, with the natural history of each species, from a close application to the subject, and observations made in different countries of this kingdom; as well as from breeding numbers from the egg, or caterpillar, during the last thirty years. ches after infects I nevermet with it but in the ifle of Sheppey, and on a hilly pafture field near Ofpringin Kent. I found it in different years at both places, and it appeared to belocally attached to the fpot. It is out in the winged ftate the middle of Auguft, and is not difficult to take on the wing, as it does not ramble far, or fly male is lefs than the female, but in colour and markings they are nearlyalike. See the upper parts of the male at fig. i, and the under parts at fig. a. S P. XXXIX. PALE CLOUDED YELLOW. This fpecies is likewife very rare. I met with a brood of thefe butterflies ina gravelly pafture field in Kent, and they were all of the fame pale yellow co-lour : but in every other character they perfectly agreed with the above de-fcribed ; and it is a doubt with me, whether this be a diftinct fpecies, or only avariety in colour. This fly is likewife on the wing the middle of Auguft. Itsupper parts are reprefented at fig. 3, and the under fide at fig. 4. 33.
