This injector is fitted with a movable combiningtube (part numbered 25 in sectional view) operated bya lever which allows it to be adjusted to workcorrectly at different pressures of steam and under themany conditions required of a locomotive injector. To Operate.—Have the combining tube in positionto allow sufficient quantity of water to condense thesteam when the starting valve is full open, then open. Fig. 15. Little Giant Locomotive Injector. the starting valve slightly; when water shows at theoverflow, open full. Regulate the water by movingthe combining tube—toward A for less water, andtoward B for more water. To Use as a Heater.—Close the overflow by movingthe combining tube toward B until the tubes 25 and 26come together, then open the starting valve enough toadmit the quantity of steam required. BOILER WASHING AND TESTINGAPPx\RATUS. The accompanying engraving shows a washingand testing apparatus, which will wash out, fill, andapply pressure to a boiler, with hot water. It has acapacity of 5,000 gallons per hour. When this appa-ratus is used, the boilers are washed much moreeffectually than can be done with cold water, andtheir temperature is not materially reduced, which isinjurious .to flues and fire-box. It enables one toblow out, wash and fill with hot water and have alocomotive ready for service within one hour, withoutinjury to the boiler. Thi
