Washingtonavenue, which is designed to take the sewage of Kneeland andHarvard streets districts. On account of the low grade at whichthe railroad subway is designed across Mt. Washington avenue,this sewer had to be very much depressed. The crown of thesewer being at Grade 3, and as there was not sufficient weightof material over the sewer to resist tidal pressure, a particularform of construction was adopted, the arch of the sewer.
