. A flying trip to the tropics. A record of an ornithological visit to the United States of Colombia, South America and to the island of Curaçao, West Indies, in the year 1892 . MAGANGUE FROM THE RIVER. we returned to the forks of the river, where we picked up our bongo, which had been left there during the night, and then headed forMompos. About ten oclock we stopped for an hour for wood, and Cabelland I took advantage of this to go ashore with a gun. Within fiftyyards of the boat we found a small tree covered with fringy-lookingflowers, and around these some hiimmingr-birds were feeding-. In afew minutes we killed six, two of one kind and four of first were of moderate size, bills broad at the base, reddish withdark tips. They were green above, throats metallic green, underparts ashy, tail, including the upper and under coverts, rufous, theretrices with narrow bronze edgings (Amazilia fusicaudata). Thesecond kind were green above, throats glittering green, lower partof breast grayish, a white patch on the belly, under tail coverts 60 A FLYING TRIP TO THE AMAZILIA FUSCICAUDATA. (From Elliot.) oreen with gray edges, tail forked and blue-black, the two cen-tral feathers greenish (Cyanophaia goudoti). Near here, Cabell shotinto a flock of parrakeetsin a mango-tree, and killedthree. They were differentfrom the others that we hadgotten, being smaller andof a brighter green, thealula principally blue, un-der wing-coverts light yel-low, upper coverts brown-ish green, an orange chin-spot, bill and feet flesh-color (Broto-gerys jugularis). There was a peculiar point on the inner web ofthe third primary. These little birds hang head downwards on themangoes, and tear at the soft yellow pulp until nothing but theseed is left. When a flock is in a thick foliaged tree, althoughthey may be very noisy, they are sometimes difficult to see, as theircolors harmonize closely with those of the leaves. Cabell also shotan azulejo [Tanagra cana), a male in fair pluma
