Clara Vale pit village stone built terraced houses

Clara Vale is an isolated village on the south bank of the river Tyne not far from Wylam which is in Northumberland. Clara Vale is situated in Tyne and Wear however. Originally a mining community, the pit has long gone. These two rows of stone built terraced houses were originally constructed to accommodate the families of the men who sank the pit shaft.
