Kurma supporting Mount Mandara
Vishnu in his aspect as Kurma supporting Mount Mandara, which serves as a churning stick. The snake Vásuki is coiled around the mountain. The asuras hold him by his head, the gods by his tail. Strangely, here the rival parties do not face each other but are shown in a row, all facing in the same direction. A seven-pinnacled building graces the top of Mount Mandara, depicted like an inverted truncated pyramid. The three asuras have reddish hair, tripundras (three horizontal lines) on their bodies, vibhuti (cow dung ash) on their foreheads and short lower garments. The three gods are Vishnu, whose chakra (discus) is clearly visible, and Shiva, with his damaru (hourglass shaped drum); the third deity cannot be identified.
