This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Martian canyons. Mars Express image of the Dao and Niger Valles (canyons) on Mars. The area is about 200 kilometres across, and the canyon walls will be many kilometres high, larger than the Grand Canyon on Earth. Several impact craters are also seen. Mars is a cold, desert world. Evidence of past geological activity include canyons and also some erosion features, indicating that water once flowed here. This area is in the planet's southern hemisphere. Data from the High Resolution Stereo Camera. Mars Express has been orbiting Mars since December 2003.
