The Paleolithic Bacho Kiro Cave Near Dryanovo In Bulgaria


the bacho kiro cave is located near the dryanovo monastery in the canyons of the andanka and dryavno river. it is also known as the dryanovo cave and was opened in 1890 and since 1964 it has been electrified. it is named after bacho kiro a famous figure of the bulgarian national enlightenment. the cave is a four storey labyrinth of galleries and corridors with a total length of 3600 metres. 700 metres are maintained for tourists. there are two different routes which are specially lit for tourists. the first hall is called predverieto - the porch leading through a tunnel called arkata to the rainy hall full of stalactities and stalagmites. other areas are called pope hariton, the hall of the lakes, congress hall, the waiting hall, the eagle, the fountain, the spine, the stone forest, and the tongue of the mother in-law, and the dough. the cave was declared a natural heritage in 1962 and last renovated in 2002.
