The retreat of the author, Gavin Maxwell (known as Camusfeàrna in his novel " Ring of Bright Water " ), was situated six miles south west of Glenelg in Wester Ross, Northwest Highlands of Scotland. The cottage no longer stands as was destroyed tragically by fire many years ago. The Sandaig Islands are a small group of islets just off the point in the Sound of Isle of Skye is visible across the water in the left of the picture.
