A dorsal incisionis made, commencing below, at the middle of the ulnar border of themetacarpal bone of the index finger, and this is continued upward, 542 UPPER EXTREMITY. over the middle of the posterior surface of the radius, to a point oneinch above the level of the wrist-joint. This incision passes throughthe skin and fat and runs parallel with the outer border of the extensortendon of the index finger, the extensor indicis.
