A notice on Maiden Lane Bridge over the Regents Canal in London thanking cyclists for slowing down when there are pedestrians

There are now problems on many canal towpaths, particularly in urban areas, where some cyclists commuting to work at speed or are speeding to achieve a personal best time on apps like Strava. The towpaths are not wide enough to accommodate speeding cyclists and pedestrians and boaters with consequent frequent minor accidents. Although in theory Canal and River Trust wish pedestrians to have priority, in practice this if often not the case. CRT’s slogan is share the space, drop your pace.
