Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Bullet head ant (Paraponera clavata). One of the largest Central American ants that has a powerful sting. Paraponera clavata is called the bullet and in the family Formicidae. It is also known as the lesser giant hunting ant or conga ant. It has huge mandibles and a potent sting due to its venom. It inhabits humid lowland rainforests from Nicaragua and the extreme east of Honduras and south to Paraguay. Magnification: x2. 5 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
