Ken and Michael, same-sex domestic partners for 11 years, were married at San Francisco City Hall in 2004

Ken (left) and Michael have been same-sex domestic partners for 11 years, they married in San Francisco City Hall in February of 2004. In 2004 over 4,000 same-sex couples married at the San Francisco City Hall only to have their marriages nullified by the state of California months later. In May of 2008 the California Supreme Court ruled that the 2004 California law nullifying same-sex marriages violated the fundamental right of a person to marry the partner of their choice and same-sex marriages began again in California on June of 2008.
