John Arbuthnot, Scottish physician, satirist, mathematician and polymath (1906). Arbuthnot (1667-1735) was the inventor of the figure of John Bull. In 1702 he successfully treated Queen Anne's husband, Prince George of Denmark, at Epsom after he was taken ill.
