Falleras Mayores de Dénia and Courts of Honor in traditional costume attending street concert

Each year in March the people of Dénia celebrate the traditional fiesta of the Fallas marking St Josephs Day. Intricate papermachie statues known as 'ninots' are constructed and displayed in the streets from the 16th to 19th March. These structures are a year in the planning and making. On the 19th the statues are burnt 'crema', all bar one which is saved as voted the most popular. The festival begins with celebrations such as musical concerts as shown in this photograph. Note the traditional elaborate costumes worn by the women and young girls during the fiesta period.
