Head with brain. Coloured three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) scan of a human head, with the skull opened to show the brain. The face is seen from base of the forehead to chin. The scalp and cranium are cut away to show surface convolutions of the brain. This is the cerebrum of the brain, divided into left & right hemispheres. The cerebrum is the largest and most highly developed part of the brain, involved in voluntary muscular activity. It is the seat of consciousness and intelligence. CT scanning uses X-rays to produce \slice\" images of the body. Here, data from many \"slices\" through the head have been combined to create this three-dimensional view."
