The main walks run lengthwise of the houses, with the beds level with the sur- face and six or eight feet wide. The rows of plants run across the beds and are either three or six feet apart. The greater distance gives practically the same returns, with more opportunity for a catch crop. The seeds are sown in pots and trans- planted to the beds when ready to run. This gives a much more even stand, as the percentage of vegetation is much greater than when the seed is sown in the beds, which is quite an object with high-priced seed.
