Statue of the world's first human in space cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968) in Moscow, Russia


Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin (9 March 1934 - 27 March 1968), Hero of the Soviet Union, was a Soviet cosmonaut. On 12 April 1961, he became the first human in space and the first to orbit the Earth. This monument to the world's first human in space, Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin was opened on July 4, 1980 at Gagarin Square in Moscow. It is 42 meters (138 feet) high and made of titanium. It is here that Yuri passed by from the airport Vnukovo in Moscow on his way to the Kremlin after his historical flight into space. At the base of the column there is an exact replica of the reentry vehicle named "Vostok" in which he flew into space.
