Andre Kuipers (born 1958), Dutch physician and astronaut for the European Space Agency (ESA). Kuipers took part in the Soyuz TMA-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) for 11 days from 19-30 April 2004. Kuipers was then chosen for PromISSe, the fourth ESA long-duration mission to the ISS. He launched on Soyuz TMA-03M on 21 December 2011, and will stay on the ISS for 148 days until May 2012. He will serve as flight engineer for part of Expedition 30 and for all of Expedition 31, helping to carry out over 50 experiments. Behind him is a training area for the ESA's Columbus science laboratory ISS module.
