An historic portrait of British soccer player William Hunter (1847-1949). Sunderland born Hunter was well travelled &, started his football career with Sunderland West End, played for Liverpool & Sunderland during 1908/9 & moved to Lincoln, later returning to the North East to play for Wingate Albion, the Scottish team Airdrieonians and then South Shields. In 1912 he played for Barnsley, before moving on to Manchester United. In the following 2 years he joined Clapton Orient, Exeter City, Clapham and Southampton. With the Grecians he toured South America. He was greengrocer in retirement.
