He has attained con-siderable reputation as an oculist and is widely known as a writeron various medical subjects. He attended special private coursesin the School of Anatomy and Surgery under Dr. D. Hayes Agnew,a very popular and excellent school of instruction some years ago,and practiced surgery quite extensively in the earlier days of hisprofessional Bushrod W. James Dr. James has always taken a lively interest and active part inmatters pertaining to his profession, and particularly in regard tothe subject of public health. In 1S67 he visited Paris as a NI (elegate from the American Institute of Homoeopathy to the FrenchHomoeopathic Medical Congress held there in August of that July, 1881, he attended the International Homoeopathic Conven-tion held in London, and the Worlds Medical Congress held therein August of the same year. He was a member of and took anactive part in the proceedings of the First International Homoeo-pathic Convention which was held in Philadelphia in 1S76. Heprepared and read papers before each of these gatherings of hisschool of medicine. He improved the opportunity offered by histrips abroad to visit all parts of Europe, including Norway, Sweden,Finland, Russia, Turkey, Egypt and the Holy Land.
