Gravitational lens. Composite image of galactic cluster 0024+1654 (yellow, at centre) acting as a gravitational lens and causing multiple images of a galaxy behind them to appear. The affected galaxy appears as five blue hoops, one at upper right, two at lower centre, one at lower left and one at centre. The enormous gravitational pull of the galactic cluster warps space nearby and causes light to bend, magnifying and distorting the image of the distant object. Image composed of separate red and blue exposures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope on 14 October 1994.
