Ligon,C. A. Wall. I May 26, 1921. Page During the past few months I have come intoclose touch with the great educational workwhich you are doing in the South, I saw yourgreat colleges and universities with men of lightand leading at the head of them, and the eager-eyed students that throng your institutions. I alsosaw in your Conferences hundreds of ministerswho told me it was the regret of their lives thatthey had never been able to secure for them-selves a college or seminary training. Will youpermit me therefore to utter both a hearty con-gratulation and an earnest challenge? Will thechurch prove herself adequate to the situation?Only an educated community and ministry canlake full advantage of your marvelous opportuni-ties. May God fire your hearts to make the greatMethodist Episcopal Church, South, a leader in aneducational movement that shall have Christ atthe centre of it and thereby supplant a trainingthat is purely selfish by one that will serve andbless the world.
