A Goat Pasture

The engraving is of a painting by George Henry Smillie (1840-1921) an American artist of the Hudson River School who moved in later life towards a more impressionistic mode of expression. He is recognized for his paintings of the farms, mountains and shoreline of New Hampshire and the Rocky Mountains. His father James was a well regarded engraver and his brother James was also a well known artist and he married an artist. A Goat Pasture shows the animals on a hillside with a copse of trees.
