Hurricane Relief-27. The US Navy (USN) Wasp Class Amphibious Assault Ship USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) is tied securely to the pier as it awaits the full force of Hurricane Isabel. The KEARSARGE is undergoing maintenance and unable to leave Norfolk with the other 40 Naval ships. Hurricane Isabel, currently a Category 2 hurricane, made landfall near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina (NC), approximately 100 miles south of Norfolk.
