UNITED STATES - July 17, 2020- The Leesburg statue, erected in 1908 during the time of Jim Crow Laws, rests in front of the Loudoun County Courthouse. Virginia is home to more than 200 public memorials to the Confederacy, according to state officials. The Loudoun County Board of supervisors voted unanimously July 6, 2020 to affirm that the ‘Silent Sentinel’ statue of a Confederate soldier that stands on the courthouse lawn belongs to the Loudoun Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and to allow them to remove the statue from public property.
