Recycling car batteries. Skip containing car batteries recovered from scrapped cars at a metal recycling centre. The car batteries contain toxic heavy metals such as lead, and need to be recycled and disposed of carefully to avoid contaminating the environment. Car batteries are used to store electrical power used to start a car engine. While the engine is running it is used to recharge the battery, but eventually the battery wears out and needs to be replaced.
